How FilterPoint's anti-spam service does spam filtering and spam blocking

FilterPoint works with entire domains, e.g., FilterPoint.com, not with individual email addresses such as nadine@FilterPoint.com. Our service is compatible with any Internet email server you may have currently hosting your email. It will not work with accounts on shared email service such as gmail.com, comcast.net, yahoo.com, etc.

The system works by inserting our mail servers in front of your existing mail server(s) that receive mail. We perform the desired rejecting and filtering, then forward messages to your existing mail server (at your office or your ISP) for final delivery.

The only change you'll need to make to your existing infrastructure is to change your mail server (MX) records in the DNS settings for your domain which is fairly easy to do (see Step 4 in the instructions below). There is no need to add or change any software on your servers or clients.

Sign Up Steps
  1. Review eligibility checklist:

    1. Do you manage your own domain name (the part of the internet address to the right of the @ sign)?
    2. Would you like to have ultimate control over SPAM and virus emails?

  2. Review, sign, and return to us the service agreement and have your technical people fill in the client information page.

  3. You will get a call from a FilterPoint representative to verify your information and record your credit card information. You can also call us at 1-866-NOSPAM4US.

  4. After receiving confirmation via email from our tech support that FilterPoint is ready to filter your domain, you need to change your DNS MX records.
    1. In the email you receive from us we will list the two filtering hosts on our system that you will use for your primary and secondary MX. The MX records in your DNS record need to be changed to point to these servers.
    2. If your DNS is hosted by a hosting company, you can call them to request the change or simply forward the email to their technical department.
    3. If your DNS is hosted on your site by your own servers, you can forward the email to your internal IT department.
    4. Depending upon how your DNS record is setup, it may take up to several days until your changes are propagated throughout the internet. You will still receive email throughout this process.
    5. Optional: After a few weeks, when the DNS has had time to completely propagate, you should configure your mail servers or firewall to only allow incoming mail from FilterPoint's systems. While not strictly necessary, we have seen some spammers attempt to send mail around our servers this way.
